Product Questions
Do I have to do all 10 steps each time?
Nope. You can experiment based on your intuition about what your skin needs. For example, some days your skin may feel hydrated and you may only need to cleanse, tone and moisturize. There is also no real need to double cleanse in the morning if you have double cleansed the night before. I choose to cleanse, tone, and apply the essence steps daily because I like how it makes my skin look and feel. I always wear sunscreen - one of the best things you can do to prevent skin damage and premature ageing. But I don't necessarily use serums every day. So go for it. Experiment!
Do you always have to use South Korean products for the 10-step routine?
No, you can use other types of products from other countries. It is also ok to introduce products gradually into your routine and finish up what you are using before you start something new. You can find products for all ten steps here on this website - beautiful, innovative, highly imitated, and reasonably priced.
What is pH and why is it important to skin?
pH is a scale that measures the acidity of a liquid. It ranges from 1 to 14, with seven being neutral, higher levels being alkaline (less acidic), and lower levels being more acidic. The water in the protective layer of skin has a pH of about 5.5. It's slightly acidic. That's why cleansers formulated to be a little acidic, around 5.5, are ideal. They clean skin without stripping its natural oils or damaging the protective barrier. After cleansing, your skin should feel fresh, not stripped. Beware of products that promise you squeaky clean skin! They will weaken your skin’s natural barrier and leave it unprotected.
Is it ok to have fragrance or alcohol in skincare products?
I carry some products which contain fragrance but it is usually the last on a long list of otherwise clean ingredients, so if a product is on balance very clean with natural ingredients, I will overlook a small amount of fragrance. The same goes for alcohol - some alcohol formulations are too harsh for skin, while other formulations act as a solvent, anti-foaming or anti-microbial agent. Some skincare experts are critical of alcohol in skincare products, but the answer is not cut and dried. Many products on this website are so gentle, they are great for all skin types, even sensitive. But always test for yourself.
