Collection: Best for Oily Skin
Oily skin is caused by overactive sebacious glands which produce sebum, an oily fatty substance leading to shiny skin, enlarged pores and breakouts.
Oily skin can be caused by genetics or triggered by hormones, stress, a damaged skin barrier and even extreme weather. It is also often prone to breakouts.
A good way to tell if you have oily skin is to use a blotting paper to dab on your forehead, nose and cheeks. If the paper is saturated with oil, chances are your skin type is oily.
Here's now to nourish oily skin while preventing breakouts:
- Look for gentle, non-comedogenic products. (Non comedogenic means it won't clog pores).
- For make-up removal, use a light oil cleanser, micellar/cleansing water or foaming cleanser to prevent clogged pores.
- Choose a cleanser with benzol peroxide or salicylic acid, which deeply cleanse pores and prevent breakouts.
- Don't avoid hydration - starving oily skin of hydration will only cause your skin to produce more sebum - the trick is to keep skin balanced with both hydration and oil regulation. Choose water-based, gel or light moisturizers.
- Ingredients that help hydrate skin without oiliness include hyaluronic acid, panthenol and niacinamide to help calm inflammation.
