Dog Days of Summer “ruff” on your skin? I’ve got you!
Summer is still here, in all its glorious August heat, humidity and dog days!
It's a little hotter in Toronto, Ontario and a littler cooler in Regina Beach, Saskatchewan, my summertime frames of reference, but no matter where, we are still in the thick of extreme heat, humidity and dryness. Your skincare needs to handle it all!
Here are some summertime products that my squad and I love for these languid August days...
Heat and Dryness - When I am in the Prairies, or anywhere else that is hot and dry in the summer, I really lean in to plumping toners and essences, to help products that follow sink more deeply into skin. Like Pyunkang Yul Toner/Essence, MISSHA Time Revolution First Treatment Essence (holy grail), and NEOGEN Micro Ferment Essence. Pat these magic elixirs onto your face before applying a serum or moisturizer and you will be dewy as a lotus flower! (Well maybe not but your parched skin will thank you).
You can also try serums or masks with hyaluronic acid or aloe, which bind water to skin, like COSRX Hydrium Hyaluronic Acid Serum. The Mediheal Aquaring Ampoule Mask will also drench your skin in hydration.
Heat and Humidity - While humid climates help skin stay moist, you may see more breakouts as your skin produces more oil and it is harder to keep skin clean from dirt and bacteria. Double cleansing is very important in humid weather - Heimish All Clean Balm is a great choice - and cleansers for sensitive or combination skin can actually be good for keeping all skin types clean and balanced. NEOGEN Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Foam with calming Centella Asiatica, or COSRX Low pH Good Morning Cleanser with tea tree oil are two great choices.
For heat and humidity, a gel or water-based moisturizer is also best, as skin doesn't need added oil or heaviness. Like COSRX Hydrium Green Tea Aqua Soothing Gel Cream, or Rovectin Clean Lotus Water Cream, both of which will lightly moisturize without clogging pores.
Regular exfoliation is also important in hot, humid weather, to slough off dirt and debris on the top layer of skin. Gentle is always best, like Make P:rem Radiance Me Low Irritant Peeling Gel or Pyunkang Yul Peeling Gel.
