Keeping Your Glow All Through Winter

Brrrr! If you live in Canada, or other northern regions, it is COLD. And DRY.

Cold temperatures reduce moisture in the air, and when combined with drying indoor heat, our skin becomes parched and flaky.

Definitely a glow buzzkill!

So how do you get your glow back, and protect skin in cold, dry temperatures?

Create a skincare routine to hydrate and protect.

Toner/essence products like Be the Skin Nutrition Power TonerPyunkang Yul Essence/Toner or Rovectin Skin Essentials Treatment Lotion are all great hydrators for winter. These are viscous, thicker toners that help reset skin’s pH or acid levels and deliver hydration deep into skin.

After hydrating your skin, seal the moisture in with good moisturizer, one with  clean ingredients and minimal to no fragrance. Look for ones that include ceramides, or good fats that support the skin barrier and help it retain moisture. Emollients or occlusives are also helpful - highly moisturizing ingredients like glycerin, plant-based oils like squalane, or butters like shea butter - to literally repair cracks in skin and protect it from future damage.

For protective and nourishing winter moisturizers, I recommend COSRX Comfort Ceramide Cream, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream, and Make P:rem Safe Me. Relief Moisture Cream. All three are good for any skin type, sensitive included.

If you have oily/combination skin, a water-based cream will provide the protection you need without clogging pores. Rovectin Clean Lotus Water Cream is an excellent choice.

And don't forget to protect your eye area and lips, which can both become very irritated in colder temperatures. Hydrating eye creams - like COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Cream or Swanicoco Biologia Fermentation Peptine Eye Cream - which also include peptides to keep skin firm and resililent. For lips, the Klavvu Nourishing Lip Sleeping Pack helps repair chapped or dry areas.

And finally, if you can’t beat winter, join it - get out and enjoy the beautiful sunshine and fluffy snow - with hydrated and protected skin!
